Last Monday, he said, the BJP government in the state is thinking about including the Gita in the school curriculum. Nagesh is heard saying, “A committee is working on the matter. And our plan is to implement it by December this year itself.” However, even if Gita is included in the syllabus, it will only be taught and there will be no examination in this subject, he said. Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister Basbaraj Bammai had announced a similar plan last March.

Meanwhile, former chief minister of the state and Congress leader Siddaramaiah said that his party has no objection to such a move. But first of all it is necessary to create proper educational system for the students. In his words, “Students can be taught Bhagavad Gita, Koran, Bible in schools. But the government should give priority to providing proper quality education to the students. That should be the primary goal. But our party has no objection to teaching the holy book in schools to impart moral education.”
