Apart from Dum Dum Airport, Bagdogra in North Bengal is the most used airport in the state. It is the only airport for air connectivity to the north. It is also smaller compared to Dum Dum International Airport. Three more airports in North Bengal – Balurghat, Maldah and Cooch Behar – are in progress as part of the central project to reduce pressure on Bagdogra. The central delegation has already inspected the work of these three districts. The Union Minister told Trinamool representatives that these three airports are under the Centre. So with quick monitoring there, these airports can be activated quickly. But since Andal Airport is privately owned, direct investment is not possible there.
