Sukumar Sarkar, Dhaka: Fear of vandalism in Pujomandap. Police Commissioner of Dhaka Mohammad Shafiqul Islam gave a message to the policemen to be careful. He also made it clear that strict action will be taken if terrorism and communal violence spread in the name of politics.
Commissioner Islam said at the headquarters of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Wednesday, “In order to prevent any kind of vandalism in the puja mandap, Ansar members should be deployed in addition to installing sufficient closed circuit (CC) cameras in the places where idols are made and all the mandaps.” The police also have to stay in the mandap during the puja. He also said that if any kind of political program is carried out peacefully, the police will not prevent it. But strict action will be taken against those who set fire or spread terror in the name of politics. He directed all the police units of DMP to be always alert to complete Durga Puja, the main religious festival of Sanatan religions, in a fair and peaceful atmosphere.
The fear of sectarian conflict in Bangladesh has been raised, last Sunday the idol of Kashipur Durga temple in Mehendiganj, Barisal was reported vandalized. In the morning locals entered the temple and found the idol in a broken state. The incident spread panic among the Hindus. After that, the comments of the police commissioner are believed to be somewhat reassuring to the minorities.
Note that last year In Bangladesh (Bangladesh) Fundamentalists attacked Durga Puja temple one after another. Then protests started across the country. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stood by the minority and assured security. A few days ago, Hasina exchanged greetings with the leaders of Janmashtami Celebration Parishad and Bangladesh Puja Celebration Parishad. He said, “This is what I will say to our Sanatan Hindu community, you are the people of this country. So don’t think of yourself as a minority, think that you are citizens of this country. So you will enjoy equal civil rights and we want to see you that way.”
