Arnav Das, Barakpur: Gold recovered from Belgharia Expressway. Police recovered around 11 kg of gold from the searched Maruti Alto car on Friday morning. The market price of which is about 55 crore rupees. So far, four people including the driver have been arrested in this incident. In case of recovery of gold before Puja, there is naturally increasing concern about security.
According to police sources, a Maruti Alto car was traveling on the Belgharia Expressway in Mylakhala area adjacent to Dakshineshwar. Seeing that, the patrolling police got suspicious. The police asked to stop the car. The car was stopped and the search started. There was a bag in the car. The eyes of the investigators were on the forehead while searching the bag. Police recovered 11 kg gold bars from that bag. The market price of which is about 55 crore rupees. The investigators also seized 11 mobile phones from the vehicle.
Four people have been arrested in this incident. The accused is Netaji Rajaram Pawar. He is thirty-five years old. Thirty-nine-year-old Mayur Manohar Patil and twenty-six-year-old Ganesh Chauhan and Surjit Mukherjee have been caught in the police net. But where they were taking the gold, and whether anyone is involved in this gold smuggling ring, whether the arrested have ever smuggled gold before – is still not known. Investigators are hoping to get all the information by interrogating the four.
It may be noted that a large amount of gold was recovered from the Rajdhani Express at Jalpaiguri station this year. Two women gold smugglers were also arrested. Gold worth Rs 1 crore 31 lakh was also seized from them. In the wake of that incident, a huge amount of gold was recovered before it was smuggled on the Belgharia Expressway.
