News Daily Digital Desk: Pujo’s mantra means his language is Sanskrit. Our society has accepted this as a fundamental concept. Priests also chant in this Sanskrit language. Although many may not understand the meaning of that Sanskrit mantra. But believe, its rhythm, pronunciation calms the mind, awakens devotion in the mind. In the same way, common people get carried away without understanding the mantra spoken by the priest during the puja flower offering. While chanting Sanskrit mantras one has to face problems in many cases. But with the belief that the tradition of mantras gets due status in the Sanskrit language, they have made Sanskrit mantras a habit. However, priest Kaliprasanna Bhattacharya, from his 60 years of priestly experience, says that chanting should be in a language that you yourself understand. That’s how you can clearly express your thoughts to God. At the same time the pronunciation is also purified. So there is no problem if Bengali mantras are chanted in Bengali language. It is in this context that ‘Sambad Pratidin Digital’ has launched ‘Pushpanjali #ChantBangla’. But can this Bengali translation of mantras from Sanskrit be accepted overnight? There will be no harm in giving wreaths? This was answered by priest Kaliprasanna Bhattacharya.
In his words, “From my own experience of 60 years while giving garlands, the eyeballs of those reciting the mantras move from side to side. I understand from that, they are not understanding the mantras. If these mantras can be said in his mother tongue, Bengali, then he can also express his feelings beautifully.” He then added, “When this mantra was composed, everyone spoke Sanskrit. Now if every Indian can express his needs to his mother in his own language, what can be more beautiful than that! I did not understand the meaning of how many Sanskrit words are pronounced, I gave flowers. But then I express my feelings to my mother with my hand on my chest, I do it in my own language.
All that we chant while offering anjali to mother is not a mantra. Kaliprasanna Bhattacharya explains, “The seed of the mantra, like Maa Durga’s magic seed ‘hring’, is the mantra. The rest is described in terms of its form. But we thought it was all mantra. So I say to everyone, if you can express your thoughts in your own words, everyone will accept it.”
