News Daily Digital Desk: Liquor bottles should also have ‘statutory warnings’ written in big letters like cigarette packets. With this RG Supreme Court A lawyer approached (Supreme Court). Not only did the apex court reject that plea, it instead said, ‘Alcohol is considered by many to be good for health.’
A BJP leader named Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay approached the Supreme Court with a request to write ‘statutory warning’ on liquor bottles. He demanded control over the production, distribution and consumption of liquor. The apex court directed the government for that. Not only that, just like cigarette packets have warnings written with pictures, wine bottles should also have warnings written in big letters. That warning should also be disseminated through advertisements on TV, newspapers and social media. It will increase the awareness among the youth and reduce the consumption of alcohol to some extent. A little care in this matter can save a lot of damage.
But the Supreme Court did not accept the request of the BJP leader. A two-judge division bench of the Supreme Court clarified that two types of statements can be heard in this regard. A division bench of Justices S. Ravindra Bhat and Indira Banerjee said, Many people say that moderate consumption of alcohol is good for the body. Many people believe that. But no such claim is ever heard of cigarettes. After that, the Supreme Court clarified that it is a matter of policy. Such cases cannot be accepted. Either the litigant withdraws it, or the court dismisses it.
Ashwini Upadhyay, a disappointed litigant after hearing this flat ‘no’ from the Supreme Court, then claimed that he wants to move this case to the Law Commission (Low Commission). But the Supreme Court did not allow that. Finally he had to withdraw the case. Many aficionados claim that drinking alcohol is good for health. In fact, the Supreme Court also accepted that demand.
